下面是我自己写的一篇关于“呢”的用法（英文版），仅供参考。


1.       Questions with “呢” is used to ask the same question as asked before


This is a structure made by adding “呢” directly after a pronoun or a noun.The meaning of the question,however,must be clearly indicated in the previous sentence.For example:


我很好，你呢？(你呢？＝你好吗？I’m fine,and you?)


你不忙，你男朋友呢？(你男朋友呢？＝你男朋友忙吗？I’m not busy,what about your boyfriend?)


你是美国人，他呢？　(他呢？＝他是美国人吗？You’re an American,how about he?)


2.       Questions with “呢” is also used to ask the location of a person or an object without any dependence on the context, it’s equivalent to ask someone or something “在哪儿/里”,For example:


你的文章呢？(=你的文章在哪儿/里？Where is your article?)


他人呢？    (=他人在哪儿/里?  Where is he?)


3.       To relax the tone of an interrogative sentence, “呢” is at the end of the sentence, For example:


你们在聊什么呢? (Hey,what’re you talking about?)


该怎么说好呢？ (How should I put it?)


4.       “呢” is at the end of a declarative sentence to indicate that an action is in progress. For example:


我妈妈在厨房做饭呢。(My mother is cooking in the kitchen.)


小天在看书呢。      (Xiao tian is reading.)


5．Rhetorical questions with “呢” to indicate the opposite meaning of this question.


  我怎么能不去呢？(=我非得去那里　How should I not go there? )


　我怎么能放弃呢？ (=我不能放弃　　How can I give up?)


6. To express a tone of emphasis and exaggeration. For example


我才没那么傻呢！　　(I’m not that such foolish!)


美术馆还没有开门呢。(The art gallary is not open yet.)  emphasis


他还没有回家呢。    (He hasn’t gone home yet.)     emphasis


他还会唱京剧呢！    (He can also sing Jing Opera!)   emphasis


还是名牌呢！　　　　(It’s even a brand name product!)  emphasis


还差得远呢。        (I’m still not that good yet.)     exaggeration


This is an expression of modesty that Chinese people often use when being praised.One can also say: “哪里，我还差得很多”. Nowadays, Chinese people may also sometimes use “谢谢”　to respond to other people’s compliments.
